Product, Experience, or Both?
We frequently engage new prospects with a bit of Pendant history, followed by a brief discussion of how we intend to be different and worth working with compared to alternatives. When it comes to warehouse automation, we execute two different types of projects. We complete control systems projects, in which we:
- Create drawings for the panels, device layouts, and networking
- Write code for the PLC
- Build control panels in our UL 508A shop
- Purchase and deliver the field components like photo eyes, beacons, e-stop pull cords, motor disconnects, etc.
- Startup and commission the system
- Provide post Go Live support
Because we are purchasing the same or similar components as others who provide control systems integration, it’s hard to make the product itself stand out. As a result, we understand the importance of the experience for the client, especially during the startup phase. That’s not to imply that the quality of the panels, drawings, and programs aren’t crucial, but to us that’s just table stakes. Those items have to be excellent. But excellent communication systems, responsiveness, clarity, and commitment are the key factors in making the experience great for the client.
Software
Software is a little bit different. In the case of our Revolution Street WXS software ( Revolution Street website ), the product itself is a key differentiator. We invested countless hours in getting it right by building an application that:
- Puts the user in control
- Has a clean, intuitive, uncluttered, modern interface
- Has all the functionality required in a hybrid WCS/WES
- Makes it easy to adapt to changing business requirements
You don’t have to believe me, nor are the few words I wrote about the product sufficient to convey its uniqueness. See for yourself by going to the website and asking us for a live demo.
Now, software still has to be configured and implemented, so all of the project execution steps mentioned above are just as important as for controls projects. Our software team understands that as well as our controls team understands it.
What’s the Answer?
The bottom line answer to the question posed in the title of this post is that product and experience both matter greatly, and it is very important to understand what’s important to you, the client. We are 100% committed to validating your choice to work with Pendant.
